Warteraum VI, 2012 betrachte ich als prozesshaftes Versuchsfeld zur Entwicklung unkontrollierbarer Zustände und als Vorarbeit zu Warteraum VII.Rubber Souls. Die Arbeit entstand für die unterirdischen Räume des Kunstvereins reinraum e.V., Düsseldorf, eine ehemals städtische Toilettenanlage.
Ich assoziierte Orte, die ähnlich rational aufgebaut, kalt und unangenehm sind. Mastanlagen, Schlachthöfe, Pelztierfarmen, Versuchslabore oder ferne Orte, an denen Dinge geschehen, die keiner wissen will, die kollektiv verdrängt werden. Verborgene Plätze des Alltags, an denen Kreaturen zu Ausbeutern und Ausgebeuteten, zu Konsumartikeln und Nummern werden. Es gibt keinen Bereich im industrialisierten Alltag mehr, der für den Einzelnen noch umfassend überschaubar wäre. Es scheint, als hätten wir die Kontrolle verloren.
Davon ausgehend erarbeitete ich Strukturen und Formen, die sich als Wucherungen und Ansammlungen regellos und virulent des Raumes bemächtigen sollten. Die Hüllen der so entstandenen Objekte sind aus reflektierendem high-tech Garn gewickelt, gebunden oder verstrickt. Für die Collagen Komfortverhalten 2012/13, wie für die Objekte, wollte ich kontrollierende Gedanken vermeiden, um grob, achtlos, schnell und unreguliert arbeiten zu können.
* Als Komfortverhalten oder Autogrooming bezeichnet man in der Verhaltensbiologie alle Aktivitäten eines Tieres, die unmittelbar der Körperpflege zugeordnet werden können. Hierzu gehören insbesondere Putz- und Kratzbewegungen, sich Lecken, sich Schütteln, sich Scheuern, sich Beknabbern, das Baden im Wasser, das Sandbaden und das Sonnenbaden, aber – beispielsweise bei Schweinen – auch das Wälzen oder Suhlen im Schlamm und das Nasenbohren beim Menschen. I see Waiting Room VI, 2012 as a process-based testing ground for the development of uncontrollable conditions and as preliminary work for Waiting Room VII.Rubber Souls. The work was created for the underground rooms of the art association reinraum e.V., Düsseldorf, a former municipal toilet facility.
I associated places that are similarly rationally constructed, cold and unpleasant. Fattening facilities, slaughterhouses, fur farms, test laboratories or distant places where things happen that nobody wants to know about, that are collectively repressed. Hidden places of everyday life where creatures become exploiters and exploited, consumer goods and numbers. There is no longer any area of industrialized everyday life that is comprehensively manageable for the individual. It seems as if we have lost control.
Based on this, I developed structures and forms that were intended to take over the space in an irregular and virulent manner as growths and accumulations. The covers of the objects created in this way are wound, tied or knitted from reflective high-tech yarn. For the collages Komfortverhalten 2012/13, as for the objects, I wanted to avoid controlling thoughts in order to be able to work roughly, carelessly, quickly and unregulated. *
